The Village Shoemaker

Posted by Lee Fleming on

As part of Barker celebrating 140 years of English shoemaking in Earls Barton, Northampton we invited British documentary and portrait photographer Michael Gannon to the Barker factory.

Michael's photography captures behind the scenes like never before, encapsulating the dedicated Barker factory work force and their continued service.

Our shoe making process is vigorous and consists of over 100 operations spread across several different stages including the design room, through the clicking/closing, bottom stock, lasting, making and finishing room. It's evident that without the factory workers craft and knowledge Barker wouldn’t be where it is today.
